Rumour has it that the AFL is looking to get Las Vegas rockers The Killers to fill the coveted AFL Grand Final entertainment slot this year.

3AW‘s Rumour File has reported that even though the Grand Final is still 18 weeks away, negotiations are already underway to bring The Killers to Melbourne.

The band is currently on a world tour, despite not having released a record since 2012’s Battle Born, but their schedule is wide open after August, making an Australian visit possible.

The AFL always brings big names for the annual show with Ellie Goulding, Meatloaf, Ed Sheeran and Tom Jones among its previous performers but it hasn’t always been the easiest gig. Meatloaf fumbled his way through his 2011 performance while Goulding was accused of lip-syncing.

Last year the AFL delivered an all-Aussie Grand Final with Vance Joy and The Living End playing. Meanwhile, Megan Washington continued the Aussie theme this year by playing at the women’s AFL Grand Final.

If the AFL is successful in getting The Killers here, there’s a chance that they would stick around for a little longer with the potential of more shows. The Killers haven’t been here since they played the Big Day Out in 2013.

Nothing is concrete at this point but here’s hoping the AFL can pull it off. The Grand Final is due to take place on 30th September.
